Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions...

During your first appointment, you will have an intake assessment.  Your therapist will review and ask you to sign administrative forms regarding confidentiality, informed consent, and the cancellation policy.  After your therapist explains the therapy process, they will answer any questions you may have.  You and your therapist will discuss what brings you to therapy, any hopes or goals for therapy you have, and modalities for treatment that may be beneficial for you.

Confidentiality is an ethical and legal responsibility of all mental health practitioners and therapists.  What you share in sessions will remain confidential.  Inner Wellness Counselling Services will not share your information without your expressed, written and signed consent.  If you see your therapist in the community, they will not greet you unless you greet them first.

There is a legal obligation to disclose information to the appropriate authorities, with or without your consent, in the following circumstances:

  1. There is imminent danger of doing serious harm to yourself or others.
  2. It is suspected or there is a risk of a child being abused and/or neglected.
  3. It is suspected or there is a risk that a resident of a long-term care or retirement home is being abused or neglected.
  4. You disclose you have been sexually assaulted by a regulated health professional.
  5. If subpoenaed by a court of law for your clinical records or to testify.

Your therapist may consult with other mental health professionals and engage in clinical supervision to provide you with the best possible service. When discussing aspects of your case in supervision or consultation, your therapist will make every effort to exclude information that could identify you to protect your privacy.

Inner Wellness Counselling Services does not offer crisis support.  If you are experiencing an emergency, and/or require immediate help, please call 911, or go to your nearest emergency department.
