Insurance Coverage

Services are not covered by O.H.I.P.  Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.

Questions to ask your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:

  • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
  • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
  • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician for services to be covered?

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand.  Otherwise, you may be charged for the full rate of the session.  I understand that extenuating circumstances and emergencies happen; these situations can be discussed with your therapist.

If you are running late, please inform your therapist via email.  If you are more than 15 minutes late, you may need to reschedule your session as there is no guarantee your therapist will still be available.  It is also not guaranteed that your therapist will be able to honour a full session time if you are late.

Tax-deductible

Since September 26, 2012, a Registered Social Worker (RSW) is now authorized as ‘medical practitioners’ under the Income Tax Act for the purpose of claiming medical expenses.  In other words, you can claim your counselling sessions by a Registered Social Worker when filing your income tax return.
